Growing future leaders in horticulture
The Young Horticulturist competition recognises and celebrates excellence in people under the age of 30 employed in the horticulture industry. Fruitfed Supplies is proud to have supported the competition since it's inception in 2005 and also sponsors the competition's Leadership Award.
The competition aims to encourage young people in horticulture to further develop their skills and knowledge and build networks of future leaders in the industry.
Competition structure
The Young Horticulturist competition is an annual event, celebrating and recognising up and coming talent in horticulture.
The competition is the culmination of seven industry competitions:
- Young Grower
- Young Viticulturist
- Young Amenity Horticulturist
- Young Landscaper
- Young Florists and Flower Growers
- Young Arborist NZ
- Young Plant Producer
The winners of the above competitions go on to compete for the title of Young Horticulturist of the Year at the grand final held over two days. Participant's are assessed on their practical horticulture skills as well as leadership, business acumen, industry knowledge and deliver a speech.
