Winter machinery servicing
Get prepared for spring and the danger of frosts by making sure your wind machines have been serviced during the off-season and are ready to protect your crop, says Les Rackley, Fruitfed Supplies Machinery Product Manager.
“We don’t like hearing reports of last minute service agent call outs, damaged engines from contaminated fuel, or even fires in wind machines that haven’t been well maintained,” says Les.
“Plan your machines’ annual service in advance to avoid the last minute rush and allow service agents to coordinate servicing greater numbers of machines while in the area.”
Avoid last minute surprises next time there’s a cold snap with these tips to maintain your wind machine through the off-season:
- Run your wind machine periodically, say, once a month to keep the engine and drive train lubricated and avoid condensation forming.
- Before operating, always check the engine’s oil and radiator water levels, and that the auto-start parameters are correctly set.
- If you’re doing a test run prior to an anticipated frost event, make sure to complete it in the afternoon while you still have time to address any issues before evening.
