Strong result for Olrig Station
Historic Olrig Station in Hawke’s Bay sold under the hammer by the PGG Wrightson Real Estate team on Friday 10 November. The property sold for $10.170 million. Interest was strong in the spectacular 848 hectare property, which came to the market for the first time since 1859.
Olrig Station was bought by HWP Smith in 1859 and has been in continuous family ownership since that time. Richard Paterson took over the management of the farm in 2001.
The landmark Hawke’s Bay Station was sold by Richard Paterson and his sister Susan Kirkby, who are the fifth generation to own the Station. After the sale Richard Paterson, who lives on the Station with his partner Trudy Burgess, said that it was a good result for all involved. He is delighted that the Station was sold to a family who will live on it.
Interest in the property was strong, with enquiries coming from throughout New Zealand. Of the six potential buyers, four were Hawke’s Bay-based. The Station was bought by a family who originally come from Hawke’s Bay, but who have been living in Auckland for the last 30 years. The family has sold their Auckland property and will move onto the Station in February 2018. They plan to make Olrig Station their home for many years to come.
PGG Wrightson Real Estate Agent Paul Harper said, “Olrig Station is a special property and we understand what an emotional decision it was to sell after 159 years in the family. The scale and location of the Station was such that there was strong genuine interest in the sale. I was very pleased that Richard and Susan got the value that the property deserved, and the buyers are delighted to be able to call Olrig Station their new home. So it is a great result for all involved.”
