The Ahuwhenua field days are almost here
The field days for the Ahuwhenua Trophy, Excellence in Māori Horticulture are coming up soon. It's a great chance to see three outstanding growers in action and hear their stories firsthand.
About the Ahuwhenua Trophy
The Ahuwhenua Trophy has recognised excellence in Māori farming since 1932. The competition was expanded in 2020 to include horticulture, reflecting the significant growth of horticulture on whenua Māori, which has increased by 50 per cent since 2017. The trophy celebrates the contribution Māori growers make to Aotearoa's food and fibre sector and the wider economy.
PGG Wrightson's support
PGG Wrightson has been a proud supporter of the Ahuwhenua Trophy competition. We believe in the success of Māori growers and the vital role they play in New Zealand's primary industries. The competition showcases the talent, hard work and commitment of Māori horticulture businesses and the communities they support.
About the field days
The field days give industry people and the public a real look at what's possible in horticulture on whenua Māori. Each finalist puts a huge amount of work into their day, with presentations and an orchard tour. It's an opportunity to see the commitment these growers have to their land, their people and their community.
Each finalist opens their orchard to the public, sharing what they do, how they do it, and why the land matters to them. Whether you're in the industry or just keen to see what great horticulture looks like, come along.
