Ensuring Bales Meet Correct Weight Standards
Wool industry packaging standards require a bale of greasy wool ex-farm must be between 100 and 200 kilograms.
Although underweight bales are rare, overweight bales are an issue, causing problems including health and safety, transport overloading, and handling within wool stores by machinery designed to lift bales without damaging wool packs.
When overweight bales are received, they must be reduced in weight. This involves opening them, removing the excess and repackaging that wool into bales that are not overweight. This is a time consuming, costly exercise.
Please ensure your wool presser is aware of the standards, and understands that bale weights must not exceed 200 kilograms.
