Rare offering of elite Simmental bloodlines
Dispersal sale of long-established South Otago stud is an opportunity to acquire the best genetics.
One of New Zealand’s oldest and most respected Simmental studs is holding a dispersal sale in March.
Glenside Simmental, Waitahuna, South Otago, was first established in 1985. Having recently sold their farm, through PGG Wrightson Real Estate, owners Garry and Julene McCorkindale are now offering their superior Simmental bloodlines to the open market.
Based on genetics sourced from around the world, Glenside Simmental’s terminal sires have been popular with farmers as distant as North Canterbury, while their stud bulls are utilised throughout New Zealand.
Overseeing the dispersal sale, PGG Wrightson's National Genetics manager Callum McDonald says other breeders will take an intense interest.
“Glenside is one of the best known and most respected names among the New Zealand Simmental fraternity, particularly for the outstanding temperament and productivity of their cattle. Garry McCorkindale has been at the forefront of governance for the breed.
Both for well-established and new adherents, this is a genuine sale and a rare opportunity to acquire some of the best Simmental genetics available,” he says.
At the sale approximately 24 rising two-year-old heifers, 67 mixed age cows, 40 heifer calves, 44 bull calves, and two herd sires plus 18 rising two-year-old bulls will be offered. All are polled, fully recorded, DNA tested pedigree cattle.
Scheduled for 12 March, on-farm and via bidr, the Glenside Simmental dispersal sale marks the end of an era: Garry McCorkindale’s great-great-grandfather Malcolm was the first member of the family to farm at Waitahuna, more than 150 years ago.
