Positive trends continue for yearling bulls

Exceptional clearances and doubling values as yearlings continue momentum set by record breaking two-year-old bull sales.

This year’s yearling bull sales are following the trends of the record breaking two-year-old bull sales that went so well early in the winter.

Most of the North Island yearling bull sales took place in September. Clearances were exceptional, with values up to double what they were last year. Farmers are motivated to buy whatever will best suit their genetics programme.

Commercial beef operators responded enthusiastically to the high quality of studstock on offer. Confidence in the red meat sector continues to build, with breeders taking advantage.

In the galleries of many sales across the North Island, dairy farmers are also to the fore. With cash in hand from their payout, they are reinvesting their financial gains into genetics that will further enhance productivity, with a particular focus for dairy farmers this year on EBVs of the yearling bulls they are selecting.

Yearling bull sales in the South Island will continue through the next two weeks. See the sales schedule for the remaining sales here
