High quality offering at annual weaner fair, with carrots thrown in

Picking the best of more than 75 years of breeding

Commercial beef raisers have the opportunity to pick the best of more than 75 years of breeding at the Feilding Saleyards as the Sue Brothers bring their weaners – and their carrots – to town.

Gareth Williams of PGG Wrightson, Taihape is coordinating the annual Sue Joe and Sons weaner fair.

“This year we are putting up around 800 Ruapehu district raised steers and weaner heifers, and the Sue Brothers calves are once again looking fantastic. Bred on seven properties located around Ohakune, and renowned for performance, the Sue cattle are Angus Herefords, out of purebred Hereford cows, by Angus bulls,” he says.

Callum Stewart, PGG Wrightson Livestock National Genetics Manager, says the Sue Brothers listen to their commercial clients.

“Year after year a solid market of regular buyers attend what is one of the North Island’s biggest weaner fairs. Those looking to buy mainly focus on carcass weight, growth and hybrid vigour. Sue Joe and Sons weaners well and truly meet those criteria. Those buyers, and anyone else with an interest in some of the best presented beef livestock available will not go wrong this year,” he says.

Making the most of the family’s Ohakune market gardening business, anyone purchasing weaners at the fair will receive a complementary bag of carrots, while stocks last.

The Sue Brothers annual weaner fair is scheduled for 11:30am on Wednesday 17 April at Feilding saleyards. For those not able to make it in person, the sale is also offered live on bidr.
