bidr features strongly at Te Awamutu clearing sale

Second-hand machinery draws strong response, with 250 in person, plus 160 online from throughout the country.

A mid-July clearing sale for a local agricultural contractor attracted a large gallery to the Te Awamutu saleyards, alongside purchasers from throughout the country in attendance online via bidr.

PGG Wrightson South Auckland area livestock manager Brad Osborne who conducted the sale said a diverse range of second-hand machinery drew plenty of interested parties.

“Around 250 people attended the sale in person, from large scale contractors to farmers, while buyers further and wider monitored the sale on bidr from Northland to Southland. Our vendor was happy to see such a broad bench of prospective buyers, and the result of the sale went beyond their expectations.

“Any clearing sale can be a difficult exercise. Doing it this way, keeping it simple, though throwing the net as wide as possible to draw in buyers through bidr will make the most of it, selling all the machinery in one hit, reducing stress and maximising the return,” he says.
bidr general manager Liam Beattie said the online platform has offered several machinery sales over the past few years.

“While they’ve been quietly simmering away, of late we’ve noticed considerable interest in adding an online component to clearing and machinery sales.

“More than 1100 people have viewed and participated online at our machinery sales. Our audience of sheep, beef, dairy and deer farmers seem to take an interest in the market valuation of farming equipment.

“This sale was a testament to the exposure bidr can help to achieve, with one in every four bids coming from online buyers, 55 per cent of the catalogue attracting online bidding, over 65 online registrations, and more than 160 online watchers. Meanwhile 1200 users viewed the sale catalogue online, showing how bidr can help put an auction in front of more buyers,” he says.
