  • Meet Carley Pryce: Passionate about people and the wool industry

Carley was first introduced to wool at just fifteen, starting out as a wool handler in her very first job. At sixteen, she became part of the pilot programme for Growing Future Farmers, working as a shepherd on a sheep and beef station in the Wairarapa while completing her agricultural NCEA papers. It was during this time that Carley learned the hands-on skills of wool harvesting, including taking the wool off the animal herself.

Following this, Carley moved into agricultural retail before joining the PGW Wool team as an inwards administrator at the Napier Woolstore. From there, she progressed into her current position as a wool representative based in Hawke’s Bay, bringing together her practical experience, industry knowledge, and strong people skills.

What inspires Carley most about working with New Zealand’s wool growers is the people. She values how down-to-earth and approachable growers are, and enjoys the shared sense of enthusiasm that runs right through the industry, from growers to procurement, processing, creation, and exporting. For Carley, wool has always been part of her journey, something she feels she was drawn into rather than actively choosing. She is genuinely passionate about the industry and excited to share that passion with the wider community.
