Elite Romney genetics available exclusively online

bidr sale showcasing rams with highest level facial eczema tolerance

An online sale of elite FE tolerant East Coast rams is scheduled on bidr for 4 November. On behalf of St Leger Superior Genetics up to a dozen top Romney rams are on offer, all having tested to the highest level for facial eczema tolerance. Only a handful of New Zealand studs are testing for FE tolerance to this level, and the genetics on offer are unsurpassed in their resistance to the debilitating fungal condition.

St Leger Superior Genetics’ Romney stud is farmed on Taumata o Mihi, a 497 hectares hill country property in Otoko, 45 kilometres north west of Gisborne.

Started by Rick Spence in 1974, the St Leger stud was purchased in 2015 by Andrew Savage. Under his guidance the stud winters 10 stock units per hectare, uses full flock genomics, and runs as close to commercial hill country conditions as possible, with a focus on breeding for facial eczema tolerance, parasite resistance and meat, while continually aiming for genetic gain on core production traits.
