Celebrating 175 Years at Stern Angus with The Country Live

From a partnership spanning 85 years to a milestone 175th anniversary, Stern Angus provides the perfect backdrop for a special live broadcast of The Country.

On 7 October, PGG Wrightson will mark a significant milestone, celebrating 175 years of supporting New Zealand farmers and rural communities. As part of the celebrations, The Country with Jamie Mackay will broadcast live from the renowned Stern Angus Spring Yearling Bull Sale, bringing together farmers, breeders and industry leaders to recognise both the history and future of New Zealand agriculture.

Broadcast live from 12.00pm to 1.00pm, The Country will feature its regular rural news and commentary, alongside special interviews celebrating the people, partnerships and innovations that have helped shape PGG Wrightson and New Zealand's livestock industry over generations.

Key guests during the broadcast will include PGG Wrightson CEO Stephen Guerin, General Manager Livestock and Real Estate Peter Newbold, and the Fraser family of Stern Angus. Together, they will reflect on the enduring strength of New Zealand's livestock sector, the importance of long-standing industry relationships, and the opportunities ahead for the next generation of farmers and breeders.

The setting is particularly fitting. Stern Angus is one of New Zealand's most respected Angus stud operations, and the relationship between PGG Wrightson and Stern Angus spans an impressive 85 years. This long-standing partnership highlights the trusted relationships and shared commitment to farming success that have underpinned both businesses for decades.

The live broadcast will overlap with the 16th Annual Stern Angus Spring Yearling Bull Sale, which begins at 12.30pm and features 47 yearling Angus bulls. Recognised as a key event on the spring beef calendar, the sale attracts buyers from across the country seeking proven Angus genetics developed for commercial performance, structural soundness and long-term productivity.

Beyond celebrating a significant company milestone, the event aims to showcase the strength and success of New Zealand's livestock sector while highlighting the partnerships that continue to drive the industry forward. It also provides an opportunity for clients, farmers and sale attendees to be part of a unique live rural broadcasting experience.

Grounded in history and focused on the future, the day will bring together the people, stories and relationships that have helped shape PGG Wrightson's 175-year journey, while celebrating the resilience and innovation of New Zealand agriculture.
