Building a stronger story for New Zealand Wool
It’s rare to know where your wool ends up. It’s even more uncommon to see it come full circle, from your farm through the supply chain and back into a finished product on a store shelf in New Zealand.
For Andrew and Heidi Jamison of Meikleburn Station in Fairlie, the wool they produce doesn’t just disappear into the supply chain. Thanks to the Wool Integrity programme and the growing partnership between PGG Wrightson and Norsewear, they can walk into a local store and see the results of their work, high-quality socks made using their own wool.
But the connection goes beyond fibre. Meikleburn is a full-spectrum PGW client, working with livestock rep Rod Sands, sourcing supplies through their local PGW retail store, and selling their wool with the support of PGW Wool rep Peter McCusker.
“We’ve always had a good relationship with PGW. From our on-farm lamb sales through to wool and store support, it’s great to now see that connection extend to Norsewear,” says Andrew.
The Norsewear, PGW and Wool Integrity partnership is creating a new value chain for New Zealand wool. It rewards quality growers, provides full traceability, and keeps wool 100 percent New Zealand grown and made. For Norsewear, it brings confidence in supply and fibre standards. For growers, it offers more alignment between what is produced on farm and what is needed in market.
“As two companies with a long history of supporting New Zealand farmers, we believe there is real potential to deliver greater value by doing things differently,” says PGG Wrightson CEO Stephen Guerin. “By connecting growers with manufacturers, we’re building stronger links in the value chain and opening up new opportunities for New Zealand wool.”
Peter McCusker says this partnership is helping bring momentum back into the wool industry.
“Wool Integrity provides the traceability, quality assurance and animal welfare standards that give brands like Norsewear certainty. It also connects growers directly with the end product. That’s powerful.”
With Norsewear garments made with wool from the Wool Integrity programme now available in PGW stores across the country, the connection between farm and consumer is clearer than ever.
“It’s a proud moment to see a product made from your own wool,” says Heidi.
This partnership is a practical example of how the wool industry can add value, reconnect with consumers and deliver better outcomes for everyone involved.
