Ross Calman

  • Wool Administration Manager
  • Based in sunny Napier, Ross leads the Wool Administration team with a focus on delivering efficient, process-driven support across all aspects of the wool business—from grower to exporter. His leadership ensures the team is well-equipped with the tools, training, and clarity they need to succeed. Ross is passionate about continuous improvement and proud of the team's role in shaping the success of the wool division.

In addition to overseeing administration, Ross also manages PGW’s Wool Express truck fleet. This added responsibility has provided valuable insights into the logistical side of the business and the critical role it plays in moving wool efficiently and reliably.

What Ross enjoys most about his role is the people. “Every day is different,” he says. “I’m lucky to work alongside a team that’s passionate about wool and committed to supporting our customers.”

Ross has been part of the wool industry for nearly his entire career. After returning from his OE in the late 1980s, he joined Wrightson NMA in Masterton as a wool classer in 1990. He went on to manage store operations in both Masterton and Whanganui before moving to Napier in 2000, first as a technical wool officer, and later stepping into his current role in 2008.

Growing up in the Wairarapa, a love for rural life came naturally. A day of work experience at a wool broker during high school sparked his interest—and when the opportunity arose to train as a wool classer, Ross never looked back.

Outside of work, Ross enjoys spending time on his small lifestyle block just outside of Napier, happily pottering about outdoors.
