Pryde's EasiFeed top tips for feeding horses over the drier months
Do you need a vitamin and mineral balancer pellet?
If your horse needs NO hard feed at all at the moment (i.e. getting enough calories from grass/hay) then feed a balancer pellet e.g. Pryde’s 150 or 300 balancer pellet, for all their vitamins and minerals that are usually lacking in NZ soils.
If your horse only needs SOME of the minimum recommended rates on the bag of one of Pryde’s complete feeds but not all, you may not be getting all the vitamins and minerals needed. Use a pro-rata rate of the Pryde’s 150 or 300 balancer pellet to top these up. E.g. If minimum rate on bag of complete feed says 3kg and you are only need to feed 1.5kg to hold condition then you are feeding half the minimum recommended rate. Top up the vitamins and minerals with HALF the daily rate of the 150 or 300 balancer pellet in this case.
Later in season…. Do you need to change feeds?
As the season goes on, workload gets harder for your horse and grass gets less. You may find you need to upgrade to a higher caloried feed to hold condition and topline e.g. Easi Result or Easi Response.
