Livestock firms operating at Stortford Lodge decide to stay put

Press Release 28 May 2007

Livestock firms operating at Stortford Lodge decide to stay put

The livestock agents operating from the Stortford Lodge saleyards being Elders NZ Ltd, Williams and Kettle, LI Redshaw Ltd and Robbie Stuart & Co have chosen to continue selling at Stortford Lodge. This decision has been the outcome of a 5 month due diligence process investigating the feasibility of relocation to a new site, some 2 km further south on Maraekakaho Road, owned by Hawkes Bay businessman John Roil. The parties have concluded that the proposed development did not offer sufficient advantages to warrant a shift from the present Stortford Lodge saleyard and have jointly decided to decline the opportunity to invest in the proposed facility.

A spokesman for the Licensees, Laurence Redshaw, Managing Director of LI Redshaw Ltd, says that while taking an ownership stake would have provided certainty of access there were risks associated with such a major development on leasehold land.

Another factor which has influenced the decision of the Licensees not to proceed, was the commitment given to them by PGG Wrightson, that they would continue to have access to Stortford Lodge. In the end, the selling agents agreed that the continuation of the current operation at Stortford Lodge was the best option.
