New site for PGG Wrightson Rangiora store

Eight weeks ago the doors closed at the PGG Wrightson Rangiora building due to earthquake damage. 

Mark Harden, PGG Wrightson Store Manager and his team are pleased to announce they will be operating from the current Mazda site, 2 Southbrook Road, Rangiora.  The new store will be up and running by the 25^th of June.

The decision to close the rural supplies store came about after concerns around the safety of the building.  In March of this year, PGG Wrightson instigated a rigorous review which proved their fears accurate. 

“The safety of our staff and customers is paramount and we had to act quickly,” says Store Manager Mark Harden. The store was closed immediately after the results were presented.  “We closed the doors as soon as we knew the building was compromised; there was never a question of staying there.”

All products were shipped to a warehouse and the team have operated from the local real estate site in Rangiora and continued to service customers. 

With the announcement and signing of the lease, the Rangiora team are looking forward to getting back rural retailing again.  “There’s a lot to do over the next month but the team are fired up and keen to put our mark on the new site.   The new site has extremely good road appeal and we will be hard to miss – it’s great to be back in business again.  Says Mark, “I guess you could say we were broken but definitely not out.”

The new PGG Wrightson store will open on the 25^th of June and service a wide range of rural farmers and lifestyle customers.

Online livestock quote system enhances transparency, convenience

Agonline.co.nz – New Zealand’s only dedicated livestock auction site – has beefed up its service offering with the addition of a new online livestock quoting system for registered buyers, sellers and livestock agents.

The quote system provides daily details of livestock available for sale and wanted to buy as well as upcoming regional sales across New Zealand. Details include stock type, location, tally numbers, price, photos, comments and agent contact details.

Nigel Thorpe, GM of PGG Wrightson Livestock says the online system lets potential buyers, sellers and livestock agents bring details together to create a market, quickly, easily, accurately and efficiently.

"What was formerly a paper based and internally focused function is now accessible to the general public. The quote system also partners well with Agonline’s existing livestock auction system in a number of ways including the sharing of links to LIC and livestock transport tools.

Paul Edwards, National Dairy Livestock Manager says the Agonline quote service for dairy livestock would normally include full assessment details, including photos, breeding background, BW and PW index’s, production history, age structure, in-calf criteria, TB status, farm contour and shed type.

"Initial feedback from clients has been very positive. Recent upgrades to the Agonline format have also seen visitor numbers and transactions increasing in recent weeks," says Mr Edwards.

PGG Wrightson teams up with Angus New Zealand to host World Angus Forum

PGG Wrightson has been announced as the naming sponsor of the PGG Wrightson Angus New Zealand World Angus Forum 2013, to be held in Rotorua in October 2013.

The forum, which occurs every four years, represents an important platform for the exchange of genetics information and breeding objectives. The New Zealand event is timed to coincide with the 150 year anniversary of the introduction of Angus cattle into the country and it is expected to attract hundreds of key Angus breeders from approximately 20 countries.

Announcing the sponsorship today Nigel Thorpe, PGG Wrightson General Manager Livestock said the World Angus Forum represented an ideal fit with the company’s vision while complementing its strong relationship with Angus New Zealand and its many breeders.
