PGG Wrightson IHC Rural Scheme

PGG Wrightson is proud to support the IHC through the
PGG Wrightson IHC Calf & Rural Scheme.

For over 26 years, the scheme has helped raise more than $20 million from 100,000 animals for the IHC. Together, we raise money for New Zealand people living with disabilities.

It was the late Norm Cashmore, a Taranaki farmer and IHC Volunteer who dreamed up the early beginnings of the IHC calf and rural scheme when he offered a pair of gumboots to every farmer donating a calf to the Taranaki branch of IHC. Trialed in 1982 by six IHC branches, the results were so successful that the IHC NZ Council adopted the programme as a national fundraising project. In 1987 Wrightson became the official sponsor of the scheme. Under the scheme, which was expanded in 2008 to include all livestock, farmers raise a calf or other animal for sale through the PGG Wrightson livestock trading network. All proceeds go directly towards assisting people with an intellectual disability.

Now in its 27th year, the scheme represents one of the biggest sources of fundraising for the IHC, raising more than $1.4 million annually.

There are many parties involved in the scheme who donate freely of their time and assist in the success of the scheme; vendors, stock truck drivers, purchasers and agents. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
